Horror in media
Refraxis - An Analogue Horror
​Analogue horror is a subgenre of horror that deliberately copies outdated or degrading media formats, such as VHS cassettes, 20th-century television broadcasts like public access channels, and corrupted files to elicit fear and unease. Its major goal is to give the feeling of nostalgic fear of the unknown, generally by alluding to disturbing fictional events or distorted material in a low-fidelity, found-footage format so as to produce a genuinely unpleasant and realistic experience by blurring the lines between fiction and a terrifying reality. This ultimately capitalises on fears about technology, monitoring, and the fragility of imaginary safety.
Night Out
I have designed a Google Sheet to imitate social media posts, similar to Instagram Reels, as an adaptation of Mollie Barbe's "Safety" Experience. What was originally designed to be a walk-through exhibit on the horrors of women's safety in public spaces has been designed now to be reminiscent of multiple-choice games. With every decision made, the path can alter from the next consumer's story.
